This roadmap serves as a single entry point into all of the QuickTime API documentation.
The table of contents for this roadmap appears in the frame on the left. Click on the name of a chapter in the table of contents, and that chapter will be displayed here.
Click on a link displayed in this frame, and the source document for that topic will be displayed here.
All of the source documents for QuickTime are included on the CD-ROM and web site containing this roadmap. Clicking a link takes you to the most up-to-date information on a topic.
When you are done reading about a topic in the source document, use the Back button on your browser to return to this roadmap. The source document may contain other information that has since been superseded. This roadmap always points to the most current information.
You can always return to the roadmap by clicking on a link in the table of contents, on the left.
Code samples appear in monospaced font. If a line of code is too wide for the window on your display, it will wrap to the next line. Sometimes this makes the code difficult to read. All code samples should display without wrapping, if your display is set to 1024x768 or wider. Most code samples will display without wrapping on a display set to 800x600.
To display a code sample at maximum width, hold the mouse button down over the code sample until a menu appears, then select "New Window With This Frame." Expand the new window to cover your screen. When you are ready to return to the roadmap, close the new window.
There are two indexes provided with this preview release documentation. The Index of Topics is an alphabetical list of topics in this roadmap. The Index of Functions is an alphabetical index of function calls.
The indexes are large (about 95K each) and take several seconds to load, even from the cache.
A topic may be listed under several headings in the index. For example, entries for data handlers include "About Data Handlers," "Creating Data Handlers," and "Selecting Data Handlers." To find all entries about a topic, open the index and use the Find feature of your browser to search for the topic.
All of the QuickTime documentation is available in HTML format, and can be accessed through this roadmap. Most of the documentation can also be downloaded in PDF format. Use the PDF format to print out long sections or whole documents, in order to print correctly formatted pages.
If you have a PDF viewer plugin, you can view the PDF files in this window on your browser.
The PDF files are also available as .sit and .zip compressed archives, for faster download. Macintosh users should use the .sit format. Windows users may prefer the .zip format. The compressed versions will not automatically display inside your browser.
The source documents covered by this roadmap are:
Inside Macintosh:QuickTime and Inside Macintosh:QuickTime Components document the features of QuickTime up to release 1.6.
Mac OS for QuickTime Programmers documents the parts of the Mac OS used by QuickTime programmers and included in QuickTime for Windows.
The remaining books together document all subsequent features of QuickTime and supersede all documentation released after QuickTime 1.6.
